The Original White Fence Farm

Growing up, a tradition in my family was that we got to pick where we wanted to go to eat for our birthday and you could always bet that a trip to White Fence Farm was inevitable every June when mine came around.

Boosting the claim of “The World’s Greatest Chicken,” this slice of Americana located 30 miles from Chicago has become a family destination for generations.

A white wooden fence surrounds the large piece of property and as you approach the farmhouse/restaurant, you are transported back in time to when the simple things mattered most.

A giant chicken statue proudly stands outside the front door giving your family a great place for photo opportunities.

Once you step inside, it’s like you’ve walked into grandma and grandpa’s.

Signs with cute sayings related to chicken line the wall; “No Fowl Moods,” “Just Wing It,” etc…

The parlor is filled with amazing antiques that include grandfather clocks, old pianos, and rocking chairs.

Their antique car museum is top-notch and is only matched by their collection of funhouse mirrors and vintage games that includes an old-school football machine and a fortune teller.

But it’s the food that will keep you coming back for again and again.

Though they serve steak and fish dishes, you’re cheating yourself if you don’t go for their specialty farm chicken; 4 pieces per person, family style, for $15.

Each comes with your choice of potato, and all of the relishes you can handle; I always commandeered the corn fritters, but they also serve bean salad, cole slaw, cottage cheese, and pickled beets.

Fun Fact – For the kids, White Fence Farm offers a seasonal petting zoo outside with goats and lamas.
