Paul Bunyan’s Cook Shanty

411 WI-13
Wisconsin Dells, WI 53965

Wisconsin Dells, the waterpark capital of the world, was a frequent destination for my family vacations when I was growing up, but there were always certain spots that made it onto our itinerary no matter how many times we went.

Noah’s Ark was our choice for waterparks.

Pirate’s Cove was our spot to play mini golf.

And Paul Bunyan’s Cook Shanty was a given for hearty eating in a unique setting.

Since 1958, the family owned and operated establishment has become a tradition for anyone visiting the Dells, and for the locals.

Greeted on your way in by a 15-foot statue of the famous lumberjack (perfect place for photo opps), the Northwoods atmosphere is set as you make your way into the logging camp inspired restaurant and gift shop.

Historic logging photos and vintage tools line the walls of the pine log dining area; each table adorned with a checkered table cloth, antique lantern, and camp styled dining ware just waiting to be filled with delicious food.

Their lumberjack dinners are served with several main dish options including camp styled chicken, St. Louis BBQ pork ribs, slow-roasted BBQ beef brisket, and old-fashioned beef pot roast.

A healthy offering of side dishes accompanies your main course – potato, veggies, homemade coleslaw, and more!

If you’re looking more at kicking your day off with a hearty offering, then stop by during their breakfast hours for a platter of buttermilk pancakes, sausage links, ham, scrambled eggs, camp fried potatoes, and biscuits & gravy.

But no matter when you stop on by, make sure to leave plenty of room for their fresh baked buttermilk donuts; an incredible must try on any trip to the cook shanty.

Fun Fact – After enjoying your meal at the restaurant and browsing their store, continue your lumberjack experience by taking in the Wisconsin Dells Lumberjack Show located next to the shanty.
