We love visiting Franklin, TN for their boutique shopping and great dining options, but it is always an extra pleasure to gather with friends and neighbors at their street festivals throughout the year.
Pumpkinfest, although during it is not the best time to go shopping since there are several hundred people in each shop, we couldn’t help but be lured into White’s Mercantile by the painted mason jars that we saw through the windows.
We maintained our place in the front half of store in its marketplace, perusing the many items that we just had to have.
Sweet goodies from Goo Goo’s, to G Momma Cookies, Olive & Sinclair Chocolate, Coops Fudge, and Tennessee Toffee lined the shelves.
Several kitchen items caught our eyes as well – mason jar salt-n-pepper shakers, cast iron skillets, whisks, rolling pins, towels, marble cutting boards, and several trusty cookbooks that have since become our sous chefs in our own kitchen.
But the store doesn’t end there.
Apparel (men’s and women’s), skin products, bath salts, perfumes, old fashioned shave cream, beard oil, and so much more are discovered as you travel to the back half of the store.
There are several items for children including baby clothing and books of iconic folklore, as well as items for our furry, 4-legged family members.
Most of the items that White’s Mercantile carries are locally produced, keeping the authenticity of the simple, community-like atmosphere that the store presents.
White’s Mercantile is owned by singer/songwriter Holly Williams, and she describes it best when she says that it’s a “general store for the modern-day tastemaker.”
Fun Fact – Williams’ flagship store is in the 12South neighborhood of Nashville. This 2nd store wasn’t even thought of until Mike Wolfe of American Pickers fame, who owns the building in Franklin, presented the idea to her.
