Lake Geneva, Wisconsin

201 Wrigley Drive
Lake Geneva, WI 53147

Just about an hour’s drive from Chicago and Milwaukee, the southeastern Wisconsin resort city of Lake Geneva provides the go-to spot for a perfect weekend getaway.

With Geneva Lake being the centerpiece of the town, there are the obvious water based reasons for visiting from hitting the waves of the wake on a rented jet ski, to boating, swimming, and fishing.

Geneva Lake is also lined with beautiful Victorian mansions that architecture and designer majors marvel at as they hit the trails on a hike or bike adventure to get a closer look at them.

But beyond the lake activities, the historic downtown district holds all of the small-town charm that it should.

There are several hotel options available, but if you’re looking to add a quiet country charm to your visit then stay at one of the many Bed & Breakfast options.

Stop in any number of the quaint little shops that line the main street district - antique shops such as Delaney Street Mercantile or My Sister & Me, Allison Wonderland where the kiddos can browse through their selection of toys, or stay within your beach theme at Bob’s Beach Shack.

When you’re done beachin’ and finished exploring the shops, make sure to leave plenty of room for a bite to eat.

There are plenty of fast food type of options, but when we travel we like to live outside of what we already know and explore affordable new restaurants with family-friendly atmospheres.

Our Lake Geneva stops always include us grabbing a window seat and taking in the perfect views of the lake at Popeye’s on Lake Geneva; the family owned and operated eatery that has been a part of vacation traditions since 1972.

The menu offers plenty of yummy options such as burgers and deli sandwiches, but go for their flame roasted chicken and hardwood rotisserie options that are their specialty.

For breakfast we have two options.

For a gourmet styled breakfast served in a country setting, we make a stop at Egg Harbor Café.

But if you are looking to stay more local with more of a greasy spoon type of diner, then there is no better choice than the Lake Aire Restaurant.

Lake Geneva is one of our favorite places to escape to, but not only in the summertime.

While most towns that are centered around a lake slow-down in the colder winter months, Lake Geneva has created Winterfest which has become an annual getaway in February to check out top-notch ice carving, participate in ice fishing activities, and go skiing and tubing at the Grand Geneva Resort.

Fun Fact – If you visit from June 15th- September 16th, the postal mail at Lake Geneva is still delivered to its residents by boat and you can join in on the fun. Buy a ticket to hop on the Walworth Mailboat at the Riviera Docks at 10AM for the unique 2 ½ hour cruise around the lake.
