Egglectic Cafe

When I was in my early 20’s and lived in Glen Ellyn, IL, a tradition was that every Sunday my family would head to church and after getting fed with the Word, we would feed our bellies with an amazing breakfast.

Between Glen Ellyn and Wheaton, it’s neighboring village, there were several choices of where we could go, but we always seemed to find our way to the Egglectic Café.

Located in the heart of Wheaton’s Main Street district, the Egglectic Café has been opening their doors and welcoming locals into their classic farmhouse styled environment since 1999.

A countryside farm mural lines one of the walls, while the decorative items spread throughout the restaurant include chicken statues on the shelves and art pieces on the walls to give this a homey feel.

Though open from 6AM to 3PM, and featuring over a dozen sandwiches on their menu, this is by and large the place to be for breakfast.

You may have to wait for a table depending on when you stop by, but as the old saying goes, “it is well worth the wait.”

There are many unique options twisted into the standard breakfast choices including their pancakes, crepes, French toast, and omelets.

However, there are also several dishes to satisfy your Southern soul as well.

“The Farm House” includes two fresh-made biscuits topped with homemade sausage gravy, two eggs (any style), and country potatoes.

Your skillet options are also a plenty.

“The Countryside Skillet” combines bacon, ham and sausage with diced potatoes, fresh mushrooms, onions and peppers. Topped off with cheddar cheese, two eggs and a side of country gravy.

While your lighter, healthier eaters will enjoy the “Harvest Vegetable Skillet” - sautéed fresh vegetables with diced potatoes, onions, green peppers, fresh spinach and mushrooms topped with melted cheddar cheese and two eggs (any style).

The majority of the dishes are right around $10, which makes this affordable for the whole family and the serving sizes are quite large and oftentimes, we could never finish our whole plate.

Fun Fact – The Egglectic Café serves their incredible breakfast’s all day long, and if your diet is gluten free, they have you covered with several items on their menu marked as “GF.”
