The digital age and the resulting downloading of music, has taken one of my favorite past times away from the youth of today; the record shop.

There is a joy that can’t be explained that comes with flipping through records and finding that hard to find gem, and a pure excitement that overcomes you when you discover a great new artist because it was linked to your favorite artist as a RIYL.

But even though buildings and buildings of extinct music havens still stand empty across the states, one stands tall and boldly holds its head up high as a beacon of light; Grimey’s New and Preloved Music.

Located south of downtown Nashville, the indie record shop is hailed as the one and only place that lovers of original music need to stop at.

The crowded store is full of rack after rack of everything and anything from classic country and Americana, to rock, metal, reggae, indie artists, etc.

There is also a tremendous selection of vinyl, adding the authenticity to the “record” part of the “record shop” description.

We’ve personally stopped in the store several times and have always felt welcomed by the friendly staff the minute that we step inside.

But perhaps even more importantly then their friendliness, is their knowledge of the product.

Know a line or two of a song, but can’t place the artist or title of it? Sing or hum those lines to a staffer and they will likely be able to point you in the right direction.

Grimey’s also allows music lovers to get up close and personal to their favorite artists with several high-profile in-store, acoustic performances.

Their in-stores have included Jack Ingram, Lucinda Williams, Lori McKenna, Parker Millsap, Jason Isbell, Sara Watkins, Margo Price, Amanda Shires, Jars of Clay, The Black Keys, NEEDTOBREATHE, and more!

As one of the last true record stores, Grimey’s clearly understands it’s mission to prove that mainstream radio isn’t the only place left to discover music.

Fun Fact – The very popular Record Store Day is celebrated in a big, big way at Grimey’s. Over 450 releases specifically designed for that day, an all-day concert in their back lot, food trucks, a sidewalk sale, and more!
