My Uncles’ have always had big trucks and even bigger personalities. I have always been very close to all of my uncles and have always thought them to be strong, funny, handsome, and smart.
One of my favorite memories from when I was little was when my Uncle Seth got his new truck. I was maybe 7 years old and that truck was just huge. Uncle Seth always called me his favorite and would regularly come to pick me up and take me to the store, driving, or to help him feed the baby animals on his farm.
Out of all my uncles, Uncle Seth and I have always been the closest and he’s always been 10 feet tall and bulletproof in my eyes. He was always patient, quick with a joke, and knew all the answers to my questions…which to a young girl could be endless.
He’s also the reason that flannel shirts and baseball caps will always be a part of my wardrobe. He would tease my momma that she was ruining me with all my frilly dresses and lacey socks. Uncle Seth was the one who bought me my first pair of overalls and let me wear his ball caps.
When he showed up on that cool spring day with that big truck, I believe my eyes about popped out of my head. I remember walking over to it and just staring up at it in awe. I knew there would be no way that I could get up in the truck to ride and started to cry.
My sweet Uncle Seth saw how upset I was and jumped out of the truck quickly to see what had happened. Through tears and little sobs I told him that I couldn’t ride in his truck because I was too small and couldn’t reach the seat.
With a loving laugh and a huge smile he scooped me up, opened the door, and placed me on the truck seat. I swore I could see the whole world from that seat; it was so tall. I also swore that my Uncle Seth was really a super hero because he picked me up so easily.
How many times in life do we get upset and worry when we don’t need to? Oftentimes there’s someone there to help us, even when we don’t think about it.
